EXPLORER POST 220 BYLAWS:

 

ACCEPTANCE REQUIREMENTS

A) Applicants must complete an application form and meet with the post advisor for an interview.

B) Applicants must be cleared through a background check.

C) Applicants must complete a Personal Health and Medical form and notify the post advisor if there are any medical conditions that may prohibit the applicant from performing certain functions.

 

PROBATION PERIOD

Newly appointed Explorers will be placed on a six (6) month probation. The Explorer will be reviewed at the end of his/her probation.

II. POST BYLAWS

A. OBJECTIVES

The objectives of Post No. 220 are:

1. To provide a safe, drug free environment that allows each person to gain practical experience in the career of Law Enforcement.

2. Engage in activities centered on leadership, service, social interaction, fitness, outdoors, career, and to encourage the development of the whole person.

3. Experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given opportunities to take on leadership roles.

4. Have a chance to learn and grow in a supportive, caring, and fun environment.

 

B. MEMBERSHIP

1) Membership shall be open to all young adults ages 14-21 years of age inclusively who live in Andover, attend school in Andover, or are sponsored by a Department member.

2) No prospective member shall be disqualified because of race, color, creed, or sex.

3) All members must be registered as Explorers and agree to the Post code and bylaws as well as adhere to any rules and regulations set forth by the Andover Police Department.

4) This Department promotes education to it's members and it is expected of the Explorers as well. In this regard, any Explorer that withdraws from high school, by either voluntary withdrawal or dismissal, will be given a two (2) month "waiting" period to either restart his or her classes or withdraw from the Post. Explorers are expected to maintain a "C" average or better and will present report cards to the advisor within two (2) weeks of the end of the marking period. Members who have a I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) of Special Needs through their school will be considered on a case by case basis. All information will be strictly confidential.

5) Any Explorer who resigns from the post must do so in writing submitted to the Post Advisor. All articles issued to the Explorer must be returned at that time.

 

C. OFFICERS

1. The Post Officers shall be dictated by the size of the Post and determined by the Advisor. Typically a Captain (post president), one (1) Lieutenant (Administrative and Program Vice-Presidents), two (2) Sergeants (Secretary and Treasurer) will comprise the command staff. The President, with the approval of the Advisor, shall appoint activity chairs and make other assignments as needed. The duties of the officers shall be as prescribed in the Explorer Leader Handbook.

2. The normal term of office shall be for one year starting on February 1. Appointments shall be made in January.

3. Officers may serve as many terms as the Post Advisor deems appropriate.

4. Any Explorers may be relieved of his/her rank at the discretion of the Post Advisor. The vacated position will be filled through appointment at the discretion of the Advisor.

 

D. GENERAL MEETINGS

General meetings will be held during the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

 

E. OFFICERS' MEETINGS

Officers' meetings will be held at the direction of the Post Captain and Advisor.

 

F. NEWSLETTER

The Post will publish a newsletter every other month, which shall include all meeting dates and other information of interest to the membership. The newsletter will serve as the historical record of the Post.

 

G. DUES

Dues will be set by the membership at the first meeting in February each year payable monthly or at any time within the month. Members delinquent in dues payments for six months or more will be dropped from the Post roster.

 

H. MONEY-EARNING PROJECTS

All money earning projects must be approved by the Post Advisor. Members who do not participate in a project are not entitled to any benefits of the funds earned. All money earning projects must be approved by the Advisor and meet Boy Scouts of America requirements.

 

I. ATTENDANCE

Each member will be notified prior to a meeting what the uniform of the day will be. In the absence of direction from a Post Officer the class "B" uniform will be worn to the meeting.
